Leave it to Dolce & Gabbana to herald the arrival of a new fashion royalty. The Italian brand is thoroughly immersed in the social media matrix, with one half of its design duo, Stefano Gabbana, keeping a firm finger on the bleeping pulse via Snapchat and Instagram, so for its autumn/winter 2017 collection at Milan Men’s Fashion Week, it invited no less than 49 influencers – that catch-all name to describe social media stars, vloggers, bloggers, actors, personalities and every nuance in between – to flood its catwalk in a maelstrom of millennial revelry.
„These are the new generation, we liked the idea of adding ordinary people who have become famous thanks to the web,” said Gabbana. Today, any tenacious teenager from Chino, California, who broadcasts from his bedroom can become a viral star with 17.4 Instagram followers – as is the case with Cameron Dallas, who opened the show and Brit blogging sensation Jim Chapman, who also took part. Alongside them were other familiar faces including rapper Tinie Tempah, Presley Gerber, son of Cindy Crawford, Jude Law’s son Rafferty Law, and model Jack Guinness.
